Messner did a good job in writing this book. Most of the book focuses on Mallory and his four attempts--1921 Mallory, 1922 Mallory/Norton, and 1924 Mallory/Bruce & Mallory/Irvine. Particular attention is given to the Mallory/Irvine climb where they tragically perished. The book also looks at the climbs of others and what Mallory's thoughts would possibly be regarding their attempts. In the book Messner looks at why he believes that Mallory not only perished on the mountain but that the ethic that he climbed with died as well--his second death. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to discover more of the climbing history of Everest.
