Seller's Description:
Very Good. Full dark brown textured cloth blindstamped decorations on both covers, gilt lettering & decoration to spine, plate illustrations, 602 pp. + publisher's ads, 9" x 6". Spine restored with original backstrip laid on. Most of the original lettering is present, the color match is excellent. Bookplate to front endpaper, probably 19th century. I've read this book, and am happy to report that it's a great read. Frances Fuller Victor gathered oral history from many explorers and pioneers for her history books. Sometimes her attitude towards Native Americans is racist, yet she was not without sympathy for them. As a woman writing mostly about the history of men, she lends an almost unique perspective--I can't think of any other women writers who interviewed mountain men and wrote about them.
