A classic in its field, by the greatest anthropologist of his time. Caution: not for the neophyte layperson with regard to the discipline of anthropology. At times I could not follow the author's argument and did not understand words he used. To understand Harris's "cultural materialism" theory it is likely better to read His CULTURAL MATERIALISM. Incidentally, Harris points out the flaws of other anthropologists' theories, but doesn't see any flaws in his own theory of cultural patterns. Maybe the dialectical process has ended with his theory!
