Two cities, separated from the rest of the world. Two cities that share the same darkness, the same monstrosities. Sty and Deluxe are cursed beyond their own comprehension. When a mass zoo breakout erupts in the middle of Sty, the body count begins to rise under the wrath of twisted, nightmarish creatures. It is only the seed, though. What begins as an animal problem quickly escalates into demonic territory, with an ancient fiend pinpointed to the root of the danger. Barliman Wheat, an investigator working under Sty Operations, calls upon the Ravenlung family. The Ravenlungs are eccentric, to be sure. Dusk is an emotionless, quiet creature whose artistic abilities illuminate many secrets. Adrian is a maniacal, knife-obsessed terror who only wishes to slice and carve every living thing in sight. Venelope is a warped, eager and joyful beast with power over stitchlings and influence in spiritual medium. Together, these three scary individuals, alongside Wheat, may just have the talents to expose not only the demon behind the zoo cataclysm, but also an old fiend of urban lore: a monstrous serial killer known only as "The Homeless Man," whose body count has left Sty and Deluxe a place to be feared above all others. A shadow looms over the two cities as a game between demons and humanoids arise for the battle of the souls of the people who call the Separated Borders home. Blood will flow. Nightmares will find haven in the light. Souls will be tested. And the Homeless Man may very well tear away at the stubborn unity between the Ravenlung siblings in the ultimate test of will.
