Not only is this un-edited version more fulfilling, it gives the characters grit and depth lacking in the original release. Sam and Mary are both mature, sexual and alive, while Sam's father is more driven and understandably cynical. The book, as Heinlein originally presented to his editors, was simply too racy for the time it was first published.
