The entire story is, from beginning to end, one that never stops reaching into your heart. It truly causes you to do some soul searching, and you wish that it could have been different. I believe that Janet Dailey authored this book with a purpose; to let the truth be known about a great nation and a great people. How could we again be so cruel, greedy, and insensitive. The white man has so much to be accountable to. Being of Cherokee ancestry, this touched my heart even more so. It makes me wonder what if this horrible injustice had never happen to such a proud people as these. This book is well worth the read. I could not put it down, and have ordered the next book "Legacies" to follow this remarkable family into the next era of their life.
