The Test of a Prophet The life of Joseph Smith, the prophet, was filled with myriads of events which show the powerful influences of both God and the Adversary. His life was one of both triumphs and defeats, of successes and sufferings, of acclaim and of martyrdom. Even in his childhood, Joseph received many experiences which were not common to the youth of his day. By the tie of his first experience as a prophet at the age of fourteen, he had gained maturity and wisdom far beyond his years. About six years after his birth in Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont, on December 23, 1805, Joseph's family had been ravaged by the plague of typhoid fever. At this time, he had seen the life of his sister, Sophronia, saved through the fervent prayer of his parents. Shortly afterwards he had been afflicted by a severe disease in the bone of his leg and had shown great faith and courage by undergoing painful bone surgery without any anesthetic at the hands of local physicians. The young boy had then seen his family reduced to complete poverty and his community placed in danger of famine by a series of three successive crop failures. He had moved with his family six times and had resided in three states. By the time he was approaching his 14th birthday, his family had been settled for nearly two years on a farm they had pioneered in Palmyra, New York and had become accepted and respected members of the community. Taken from The Prophecies of Joseph Smith by Duane S. Crowther.
This book is a bunch of hog wash. It is so far from the truth of God. One mans take on what God or a certain religion is supposed to be like. I mistakenly purchased this book, started to read it then threw it away. Any book that is not Christ centered is a book from anti-Christ.
