the book I always wanted
This is the book I always hoped someone would write. It is the story of David's career up to the point of his becoming king at the end of the First Book of Samuel. The author has mastered the art of writing historical dialogue and using period details. About halfway through the book, when we have met a multitude of characters, Jonathan becomes David's lover and the emotion ratchets up. It is very gripping from this point on, and devastating at the end. I am going to re-read this often.
