In December 1827, Rev. Thomas Maguire, P.P. of Drumkeering, Co. Leitrim was tried in the Court of Exchequer, Dublin for the seduction of a local Protestant woman. The trial took place before a jury of Protestants and Catholics. This study examines religious tensions in an area straddling the Protestant North and the Catholic South. It explores the drama in the courtroom and reveals how the verdict resulted in widespread destruction in Dublin streets.
