Seller's Description:
Very Good. Third printing of the first trade edition of this collection of 30 plays. Three volumes. Some dampstains mostly on and alongside the crown of Volumes II & III, else very good lacking the slipcase. Inscribed by O'Neill in a very infirm hand in all three volumes, each to the same recipient, (presumably) on the same day. Volume I reads: "To Edith Kelley-with admiration and deep affection! Eugene O'Neill. March 1949." A severe Parkinsons-like tremor largely caused him to be able to write only with the greatest difficulty for the last decade of his life until his death in 1953, With Kelley's tiny stamp on the pastedown of each volume. Books signed by O'Neill at this late date are rare. Presumably Kelley was of enough importance to O'Neill for him to make the considerable effort of inscribing each volume.
