Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) was a Belgian poet and playwright who wrote in the French language, and one of the chief founders of the school of Symbolism. His plays in verse often show dramatic power and poetic inspiration, but are sometimes criticized for their excessively rhetorical style. F. S. Flint and Jethro Bithell also translated plays.
