Just as in the latter the volt and ipvxv are sharply distinguished, so here it is said that the part of the soul which is sunk in the body, that is to say, the passionate and affective soul, is called the ypvxv-That which escapes the contagion of the body most men call vow, thinking it is within them, but it should be called Salpuv, since it is actually without.148 In both myths we have the idea of rebirth for sin, although the original fall of the soul seems to be due to necessity. But the resemblance extends further to the setting and the mythological detail. In both the moon is the immediate place from which the souls sink to earth and the goal to which they aspire when separated from the body; to it the pure alone are admitted.14' In nature of this pit.
