Published in 1881 the author was able to talk to actual veterans of the Civil War. While narrow in scope (concentrating on the Peninsula Campaign of 1862 and Gen. G. McClellan) the book is very detailed and well worth the read if you are interested in the Civil War and particularly Gen. McClellans strategy in the Peninsula Campaign.
