Seller's Description:
Fine. 475 p., illustrations, maps, bibliography, index. There is an increasing interest in the biology of penguins and in the areas penguins inhabit. Apart from their enormous popularity, they are also of exceptional biological interest because of their adaptations to marine and in some cases, extreme polar conditions. Increasing human activity in penguin areas, particularly tourism, is becoming an important issue in many places throughout the world. Penguins are also of importance as indicator species of the health of marine systems and feeding studies of most species are being carried out as a result. The Second International Penguin Conference was held in Cowes on Phillip Island in Victoria in August 1992. Delegates from Australia and overseas attended the conference which was hosted by the Phillip Island Penguin Reserve Committee of Management. The book comprises 21 chapters covering five subject areas: breeding biology, feeding ecology, energetics, behaviour and management.
