Socially Conscious SF
SF has always had a tradition of social commentary. SF writers have always fluctuated between a hope of a better tomorrow through technology or a fear of new horrors visited upon us through science run amok. The Architects of Fear depicts a group of scientists who believe that they can frighten the world into a state of peace. It's very classic SF but with the twist of a focus on the human cost to the members of the benign conspiracy. It's the tragedy of idealism gone wrong that gives this story its unique place.
