Excerpt from The Organism in a Case of Blastomycetic Dermatitis The dorsal aspect of the proximal phalanx of the right thumb and of the wrist, with a portion of the posterior face of the lower third of the forearm, were involved in a single connected patch of morbid tissue, dull-reddish in hue, sharply defined in outline and having a peculiar bluish-red border extending about 4 mm. Away from the edge of the affected area. The body of the patch was made up of an elevated mass of infiltration, with a verruciform development of fine, pin-head-sized papillae projecting externally and moistened by a glutinous secretion. Individual elements of this warty growth were readily distinguished by the eye. The palm was completely spared. There was entire absence of other lesions, such as pustules, vesicles, crusts, or the scar-like tissue exhibited on the leg. No other signs of disease were discovered.
