Joints spliting and partially reglued at ends of joints. Unusual 20th century bookplate of W. E. Stanley Merrett. Scattered foxing (significant on some leaves). "C. M. S. Circulating Library" stamp on title-page and at least one other page. This Belgian explorer's account was translated from the French edition ("Niger et Benue; Voyage dans l'Afrique Centrale" published in Paris in 1880) by Mrs. George Sturge.
