The writer has also personally visited the Library of Congress; Brown University Library; the Library of the Historical Society of Rhode Island, at Providence; and that of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.: Many thanks are due the librarians and assistants, who were of great aid in the investigation. In addition to these, many hbraries were kind enough to send to Harvard Library for consultation books which could not be otherwise obtained.
