Very Good in Very Good-dust jacket. Hardcover. 8vo. A. & C. Black, Ltd, London, 1920. Xii, 203 pages of text. Illustrated with 16 colour and 16 black and white full page plates. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has shelf-wear, rubbing present to the DJ especially around the extremities (DJ is chipped and worn at the crown and heel of the DJ). Bound in blue decorative cloth binding with gilt titles present to the spine and the front board. Previous owner's name present to the FFEP. Offsetting present to the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards very lightly rubbed and worn. The Maxwell brothers were both serving officers in the RNVR. Donald, the elder, was a well known naval artist before the war and after service in the North Sea was appointed in 1918 Admiralty Official Artist travelling to Mesopotamia and Palestine to do pictures for the Imperial War Museum. Gordon served in the Dover Patrol and was mentioned in despatches at the Zeebrugge Raid in April 1918 when he was in coimmand of H. M. M. L.314. Their book is a record of naval actions during the Great War and includes accounts of the destruction of the EMDEN and KONIGSBERG; British submarines at the Heligoland Bight action; Coronel and the Falklands; Dogger Bank; Jutland; the Dover Patrol; Zeebrugge; Ostend; Mediterranean and Eastern actions; the Merchant Navy; the U. S. Navy all these subjects are described and illustrated by these two talented brothers who had first-hand experience of naval warfare. E-009; 8vo 8"-9" tall; 203 pages.

Blue hardcover decorative cloth binding is bright and attractive, with only minimal darkening to top of spine. Unclipped dustjacket (scarce) is overall moderately soiled and shelfworn, with several small chips and creases; protected in archival mylar. Illustrated with 32 plates, of which 16 are in colour (by Donald Maxwell). A few tiny spots of staining to page edges visible when closed. Tight and attractive, uncommon in the dustwrapper.
