This is by way of being a precursor to Holden's Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. It was necessary to type set some of her notes because they were felt to be not legible enough. But the sentiments are intact and more of her delightful watercolors are there for us to enjoy. The two volumes should be regarded as belonging together. They provide a portrait of a remarkable woman, whose untimely death is a sad loss to us all.

Much More than "Notes"
Originally published in 1905, this Edith Holden work is a combination nature diary and watercolour journal. The exquisite paintings and drawings are made more inviting because they are accompanied by Holden's personal nature notes, along with bits of poetry from Shakespeare, Tennyson, Longfellow, Herrick, and others. The twelve "chapters," January through December, give intimate, detailed attention to the flora and fauna of the seasons as they change on the Edwardian lady's English countryside. While the poetry and nature notes are lovely and supremely appropriate for each of the drawings, it is the serious watercolourist who will love Nature Notes of an Edwardian Lady the most.
