United States Department of Justice Inspector Billy Atkins is at war with three organized crime families and he's determined to put the bosses of at least two of them in prison or even in the electric chair. These Mafia Dons killed his best friend. Billy and Lieutenant Maurice "Mo" Melancon of the Louisiana State Police have promised one another that everyone involved in the staged executions of Bossier Parish Sheriff Aubrey Braud and state trooper William Fitzmorris and the immolation of their bodies will pay the full price for their crimes. Their battle has grown to involve hundreds of guns and seemingly a countless number of lawyers. Using the word war to describe this effort is no exaggeration at all. Billy's boss at the justice department and Mo's boss, Louisiana Governor John McClellan, have promised all the people, weapons, money and resources needed for this crusade against Mob bosses Carlos Morello of New Orleans and Sam Giancarlo of Chicago. At least three hits orchestrated by the Mafia have missed killing Billy by the breadth of a hair. One rolling shootout on the streets of downtown Shreveport almost killed a US Marshal who was guarding Billy. Soon after, the young inspector took a bullet fired by a Chicago police detective, hired by the Dons to storm the home of the commanding colonel of Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana, That near death experience was spoiled by the heroism of Billy's athletic and gorgeous young girlfriend, Patty Phelps. As the novel opens, Billy is assisting as State Police Captain Nate Porter snaps handcuffs on the wrists of New Orleans crime Boss Carlos Morello, arresting him for a second time. On this occasion, the charge is murder! To make sure that these indictments will end Morello's career of crime, Billy has recruited a legendary retired Texas Ranger, Captain Bobcat Bonilla. And when Chicago's Sam "the Cigar" Giancarlo attempts to flee to Canada in an effort to avoid those same Louisiana murder charges, Billy encounters a whiz of a Chicago prosecutor, young and beautiful Janice LaPlante, and recruits her to help bring down the leader of Chicago's Outfit. The action is nonstop and the twists and turns keep readers on the edge of their seats and probably sleep deprived as the result of a compulsion to turn just one more page.
