Brian J. Frost ("The Essential Guide to Werewolf Literature", 2003) compiled a valuable work of vampire critical and chronological bibliography, in the form of this book.
His definition of vampirism (at least, within a fictional context) may be quite broad, but nonetheless, makes for compelling reading in tracking the vampire down from its earliest literary form to its current incarnations (c. 1989).
A necessary addition to any vampire enthusiast's shelf.
