In high school I had to write a narrative about my experience as a reader from childhood through the present. Shel Silverstein's "The Missing Piece" I remembered as one of my favorite children's books, so I pulled it off the shelf to include in my assignment; but rereading it as a teenager I quickly realized it was not a story about Pacman but an exploration of the human experience: loneliness, soul-searching, and relationships with other people.
Silverstein's ultra-minimalism in this work heightens its almost painful poignancy. It is by far my favorite book of his and certainly one of his best. Although I can't remember what I liked about it as a child, it is a delight for readers of all ages. You cannot go wrong with this book!!!

I'm a 3rd grader and it has a good moral to the story. Any kid would love to read this.

Great book
My grandchildren (4 & 8) love this book and help their mother read it often. You just can't go wrong with a book by Shel Silverstein they are timeless. My kids grew up with them and now my grandchildren are doing the same.
