Mud and Jake Klemper were special boys. Their father knew how special they were although his constant browbeating did little to encourage their special gift. But he did instill them with one thing: The Klemper Pride. The boys would have lived their lives unknown and uncared about in Slope Oak, Iowa, if not for a little song Mud and Jake composed one hot afternoon. It became a monster hit. As a result of their success, the boys became international superstars. Through it all, they never really seemed to understand what was going on around them and they maintained their simple outlook on life - until it all became too much! AMAZON REVIEWER HARRISON WEIN, PhD GIVES "THE MIRACLE BOYS OF SLOPE OAK, IOWA" FIVE STARS! "Schmalfeldt's books always make you laugh while giving you something to think about. Mud and Jake Klemper are described as "special boys" on the cover. For the first half of "Hunky Dunk", you could be excused for thinking this is a funny, rollicking story about two "special"--as in "special needs"--brothers who unwittingly write a hit song and become famous. Think Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski's "Being There." Then the book becomes something else altogether and "special boys" takes on a whole new meaning. I don't want to give any spoilers, but it's a completely brilliant twist you never see coming that raises the book to a whole new level. It's insane, and very fun to read."
