Seller's Description:
Used-Like New. From the 1920s through the 1950s, Hugh Ferriss was America's most celebrated architectural artist, famous for his dramatic charcoal renderings. First published in 1929, 'The Metropolis of Tomorrow' was the quintessential document of the prosperity of the 1920s, as well as a personal manifesto of visionary urbanism. In it, Ferriss drew and discussed the American skyscraper and presented his romantic vision for an ideal city of the future. This fascimile edition of this classic captures all the drama of the original volume, reprinting over 60 of Ferris's striking chiaroscuro renderings and his written commentary. In addition, included are over 40 additional drawings and photographs and an insightful essay by Carol Willis (author of 'Form Follows Finance') on Ferris's career. This historic document is available from Princeton Architectural Press for the first time in over five years. Some fading on spine otherwise a very nice copy, clean tight free of any marks.

Seller's Description:
Hugh Ferriss. Near Fine in Very Good jacket. The 1929 very early printing (but not 1st edition)--in its uncommon dustjacket--of this landmark in skyscraper design. (The correct 1st edition has silver lettering to the front panel and spine, this early reprint has red lettering). With timeless sketches throughout by Hugh Ferris, perhaps the most talented architectural artist of his era. His drawings here are suffused with a Decoish quality while at the same time feeling futuristic. A book of great influence to architects and designers alike. This early printing has held up very nicely. Clean and Near Fine in a crisp, VG dustjacket, with light soiling to the panels, very light creasing and chipping along the bottom-edges and pronounced creasing along the front flap. Still though, solid and very presentable. Tall quarto, Ferris's sketches along each recto, his text along the facing versos.
