It breaks new ground by clearly demonstrating the close relationship between the Metamorphoses of Apuleius and the Metamorphoses of Ovid. Juxtaposing Apuleius' Metamorphoses with several works of modern literature, it also examines some of the transformations which the metamorphosis theme itself has undergone.
