This is a trilogy of medieval Norway contained in one volume (heavy).
I loved it but it is not for everyone. It uses archaic terminology, although Undset explains most of it.
This is a family saga filled with drama and a fascinating peek into early Viking life and history. There are no stock characters here so it's always a mystery how anyone will act. It takes place in a part of the world that is hard on people and people are hard on themselves. Lots of Catholic guilt.
