Meanwhile, the insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu senses an opportunity to use the powerful relics for his own evil ends. A good number of years ago, a friend wrote a sequel to The Mask of Fu Manchu. He never got around to publishing it, but he loaned it to me recently. Before I dove into his sequel, I thought I should read the novel it was based on. I'm now a fan of these classic, fast-paced adventure stories. The characters are larger than life, and the descriptions of exotic lands are colorful, if not terribly true to life. A side note: The movie with the same name starring Boris Karloff and the delightful Myrna Loy bears almost no resemblance to this novel. I enjoyed the book (and the movie) immensely. And I enjoyed my friend's sequel almost as much!
