Seller's Description:
Fair. 287, frontis illus. reglued in, boards worn and soiled. Elizabeth Amalia Eugenia (1837-1898) was the consort of Franz Joseph I, emperor of Austria, as well as Queen of Hungary. During a visit to Geneva, Switzerland, she was fatally stabbed by the Italian anarchist Luigi Luccheni. Her assasination by anarchists was one of many in a wave of worldwide terrorism in the 1890's. Other symbolic murders during this era include that of King Umberto I of Italy, President Sadi Carnot of France, President William McKinley of the United States, and Antonio Canovas del Castillo.
