Small octavo. 124pp. Gray cloth is quite soiled, spine is browned (gilt lettering on spine is quite dull), else a very good copy, with the text fresh and clean. Inscribed by John Frederic Herbin on the second front flyleaf: "Cordially Yours/ J. F. Herbin" (on second front flyleaf). John Frederic Herbin (1860-1923), Canadian poet, optometrist, politician, and historian was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia to a French father and Acadian mother. He was an advocate of Acadian history and nationalism. "[Bliss] Carman praised Herbin's handling of the sonnet form. American philosopher William James discerningly wrote...in 1897, 'I don't know that I have ever met so complete a marriage of a man's soul with the land which he inhabits'..."
