Kt. to B. 3rd square, is the best defence; but before playing the best defence, we will see how to take advantage of one of his weak moves. We will suppose him to play his K. B. to Q. 3rd square. This is a very bad move, #s it prevents the Queen's Pawn from being played. Here you not only attack the undefended Knight, but also threaten to check-mate him by taking the King's Bishop's Pawn. This would not, however, have been good play. 8. Kt. takes Q. P. You might also take the Pawn with the Queen's Bishop's Pawn, but the move mentioned is better. Bishop takes Kt. 9. Pawn takes Bp. Q B. to Q.'s 2nd. The game is equal. There is an opening springing out of the King's Knight's opening, which is called the Queen's Pawn Two opening, from the circumstance of the first player playing at his third move the Queen's Pawn two squares, sacrificing the Pawn to gain a better position.
