After having read all of her sons' books, it is plain to why they ended up good writers even though they lived a most unusual childhood. The mother's book is not as good overall as Running With Scissors, A Wolf at the Table, or Look Me In The Eye; but I would recommend it to those who have read her sons' books. The mother is a poet and that is evident in her book. I found it a little dull toward the end. Worth a quick read.
