Not illustrated. 1857 Excerpt: ...stie was ordinarily call'd by the Countejse, in whose house she lived almost forty years, the Mother of Mercy; and worthily too: for (he was so compassionate to the poor and miserable, that none came to the house but stie was ever willing and desirous to help and succour them, which was so generally known to all thereabouts, that most of those that came to the Countejse for R Almes, any change of his Religion, tho' he wanted neither charitable warning nor good advice, that a day or two before his death he sent for the Parson of the Parish and received their Communion at his hands; yet at length not many hours before he dyed it pleas'd God so to move his heart by his good Lady's means, that he desir'd to speak with a Priest, by whom, after he had receiv'd full satisfaction about the truth of the Catholick Religion, he was reconciled to the Church, and yr night departed out of this life with great hope both in himself and others of going to a better world. Another who liv'd there a far shorter time had the fame good luck; for being a neighbour's daughter and entertain'd for a time to attend in the nursery on some who had the care of two or three of the Earl's children bred there in their infancy: she was so edify'd with the good example which she observ'd in the Catholicks, that falling sick not long after her departure thence, and earnestly desiring to become Catholick, she told the Priest that came to willing him to deliver it to her, as he then promis'd he would, but hitherto out of forgetfullnes, or some other reason had not done it, craving her Honour's pardon for his negligence; which she easily granting, and thereupon entering into discours (by occasion of that Picture) about Religion, she spoke so efficaciously, that he desir'd to become Catholick, wh...
