" In 1994 genocide in Rwanda claimed the lives of at least 500,000 Tutsi--some three-quarters of their population--while UN peacekeepers were withdrawn and the rest of the world stood aside. Ever since, it has been argued that a small military intervention could have prevented most of the killing. In The Limits of Humanitarian Intervention, Alan J. Kuperman exposes such conventional wisdom as myth. Combining unprecedented analyses of the genocide's progression and the logistical limitations of humanitarian military intervention, Kuperman reaches a startling conclusion: even if Western leaders had ordered an intervention as soon as they became aware of a nationwide genocide in Rwanda, the intervention forces would have arrived too late to save more than a quarter of the 500,000 Tutsi ultimately killed. Serving as a cautionary message about the limits of humanitarian intervention, the book's concluding chapters address lessons for the future. "

Seller's Description:
NF in VG jacket. Octavo. Black cloth covered boards and spine with shiny silver foil lettering on the spine. Book has a very subtle lightening of the color of the cloth on the extreme lower edge of the spine and about an inch of the front board from a minimal moisture contact at some point. Gray endpapers. Binding is straight and tight. Very slight spot on the lower edge of about ten pages in the rear-not visible inside the book, but can be seen if looking at the bottom of the textblock-pages are otherwsie all clean, white, and crisp. 162 pages. Dust Jacket-has a faint trace of rubbing at the extreme tips of the two front outside corners. Would be NF grade, but for the light watermark on the lower edge over the spine area and about two inches each directiong outward-about 1/2" deep at deepest point-very faintly visible from the outside if you're looking for it but light enough to not be easily apparent. Jacket is otherwise clean-upper and lower edges sharp. Nice overall appearance-uncommon title.
