Seller's Description:
None. Good Only. Sir George Trevelyan's collected letters of his uncle, Lord Macaulay, including a biography. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and decoration. Complete in Two Volumes. "In 1876 he produced the Life and Letters of Lord Macaulay and in 1880 the Early History of Charles James Fox. Both books were very well received, particularly the life of Macaulay, where Trevelyan's aim was to let his uncle speak for himself, in quasi-autobiographical fashion, through extensive quotations from the correspondence and journals that his nephew had inherited." (DNB) Sir George Otto Trevelyan, 2nd Baronet OM, PC, 1838 – 1928, was a British statesman and author. In a ministerial career stretching almost 30 years, he was most notably twice Secretary of State for Scotland under William Ewart Gladstone and the Earl of Rosebery. Also a writer and historian, Trevelyan published The Life and Letters of Lord Macaulay, his maternal uncle, in 1876. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and decoration. There is mild wear to the extremities, including mild rubbing and edge wear. The front board of volume 1 is missing. The boards are held by the cords only and could possibly detach in the post, even after careful packaging. Internally, firmly bound. Internally the pages have very slight browning and the occasional spot. There is an armorial nameplate on the front pastedown of volume 2. Good Only.
