In this book there is a girl named Geri Peters who goes to Walt Whitman high school.She lives with her mother and brother,Ginger and Jack.Ginger keeps on reminding Geri of how embarrassed she is of her. Her brother Jack is very popular and and it is a surprise to know that she is not popular too. She meets Dave. He likes her so much that he doesn't go out with the popular girls just to be with Geri. Dave does not hang out with female "juicers" like him. He likes Geri because she is smart, but he still gets her to drink.
Geri starts to drink alcohol to get hight. Her mom, Ginger, watches her become a alcoholic. She gets in fights with her family, and gives up school. She gets up a wakeup call. Kate Laine, Geri's teacher, is an alcoholic. She tries to help Geri change. She talks to her about the problems and effects of alcohol.
