'The Last of the Sweet Bananas' is a book of selected and new poems. It is a wonderful demonstration of how Mapange has developed as a poet and at the same time shows how much imprisonment without charge or trial for three years in Malawi has affected him and his thinking. And how he is now beginning to open his horizons to other subjects. Once I started reading this collection I was unable to stop until I reached the last page and started to dip into it again.
