Amazingly Insightful
This book reviews how to stem the massive epidemic of adolescents dropping out of high school. There definitely is a problem in the inner cities and urban areas. There are five steps that Milliken talks about, and they are so simple to implement, but the problem is that the educators and administrators are not looking at the bigger picture. This book should be on a must-read list for every credentialing program in the U.S. Most of the problems that high-risk youth complain about is that the people around do not care enough. It's not about grades or having enough knowledge for the grade level. It's about realizing that people care about you and that they want you to succeed. Mental motivation is the key, and everything else follows.
