This book is one of the most charming and easy to read of the biographies about Tennessee Williams. It is factual yet anything but sterile. The author writes about the man as if they were best friends. He sympathetically tells the life story and links the events to various plays, real people and characters. He exposes the flaws, faults, and failures of thus complex man, "10". I was thoroughly taken by Spoto's portrait of Tennessee Williams. This book lead me to read several other books and compilations of Williams' letters. It made me want to see all the great movies that were made from his scripts. This is a book that anyone loving the theater will find mesmerizing and enchanting. Tennessee Williams was for sure America's greatest playwright.
