Seller's Description:
Fine. 0743294580. Second impression, 393 pages illustrated with black & white photographs. Fine hard back with a fine unclipped dust jacket, no inscriptions or marks. "During the desperate winter of 1940, as the threat of German invasion hung over England, the British government mounted a massive, secret campaign of propaganda to weaken the isolationist sentiment in America and manipulate the country into entering the war on England's behalf. Under the command of the now legendary INTREPID, the British planted propaganda in American newspapers, covertly influenced radio stations and wire services, and plotted against American corporations doing business with the Third Reich. They also pushed President Roosevelt to create a similar covert intelligence agency in the US, and played a role in the selection of William Donovan as its head. Now for the first time, with great research and reporting, Jennet Conant reveals that the beloved author Roald Dahl was a member of Churchill's infamous dirty tricks squad, and tells the full story of how he was recruited to spy on the Americans during World War II. The agreements and disagreements, even among allies, are sometimes lost in the haze of the past.. This account sheds light on personalities and issues known usually only to specialists. One sees once again how complex and sometimes arbitrary prosecuting a war can be. This is a well-written account of difficult and dangerous times and of the complex personalities who made the decisions.

Washington Exposed
If you want to read about what else goes on in Washington DC and whose in bed with whom, this is it. It also gives you a lot on the American and British spy networks during WW II and a peek into the wartime White House.

Roald Dahl - SPY
Like most people I knew Roald Dahl for his children's books, but this writer deals with his service as a spy in the USA for Britain during WWII.
Having done some research on spies during that period of time I found this book very interesting.
