Seller's Description:
Very Good. No Jacket. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Bowers (1878-1958) historian and diplomat, served as America's ambassador during the Spanish Civil War. He was a supporter of the Republican cause, in a time when official "neutrality" equated with de facto support for the Fascist side. His history of Irish oratory reflects the original Jeffersonian ideals of the movement for Irish freedom. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Dark green cloth binding with gilt lettering and an embossed shamrock on the front panel. Some wear at the edges and the spine has faded a bit. Clean text; 527 pages, indexed. Contemporary signature on the FFEP (and again on rear pastedown). Partially covered in the front by a later bookplate; signature on the rear paste-down. There is a small closed tear to the top of the Title Page. Clean and fresh text. No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. An uncommon title, not often seen in decent condition. Size: 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.
