In a few cases where changes in address occurred after the book had gone to press, the corrected address is given in the appendix. Much of the work on the volume has been done by Miss A. E. Ordway, who has spared no pains to make it accurate. To Mr. J. Ritchie, J r., belongs the credit of completing the list of Astronomers. We desire to extend our sincere thanks to a host of friends at home and abroad, who, at much expense of time and trouble, have prepared large and valuable lists, but to mention even their names would require several pages.
