This was one of our children's most beloved books when they were little and we are now so glad to have found copies for our grandchildren. This book does not talk down to kids but invites them to observe and reach conclusions about what is going on. When my son suggested that his three year old might be ready for it, I had my doubts.... but he was right! Some of the humor can only be appreciated by adults but there's plenty enough for the kiddies.
