First Edition. Hardback. Signed by the author in pencil on front free endpaper. Large 8vo. pp. xvi, 156, [254]. 46 pp. illustrations, including two page frontispiece. Further illustrations in the text. English and Japanese text. Original publisher's blue cloth bevelled edges lettered gilt on spine and covers. The author's compliment's slip loosely inserted. With the small attractive bookplate showing a bookish owl, of 'Oz' publisher, later media tycoon Felix Dennis (1947 &endash; 2014) on inside cover. He was also a distinguished poet, philanthropist, book collector and lover of trees (The Forest of Dennis). Printed name of Idbury Manor pastedown on front free endpaper and a later inscription of Mary F. Moore, Idbury Manor dated 10. 5. 63. J. W. Robertson Scott (1866 &endash; 1962) journalist, author and founder of 'The Countryman' magazine bought Idbury Manor in 1922. He was living in Japan during the First World War and travelled extensively completing his socio-agricultural study 'The Foundation of Japan' on his return to Britain. Written earlier, 'The Ignoble Warrior' was one of his bi-lingual texts inspired by his desire to explain to the Japanese why Western nations, in the pursuit of peace, must fight Germany. Worn at corners, small tears at head and foot of spine, upper hinge cracked., otherwise very good. Some wear, inner hinge slightly loose otherwise very good.
