Seller's Description:
Good. Good condition. No Dust Jacket (Cooking, Cookbook) A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.
This book was in excellent shape, the DJ showed some wear, but that is to be expected with a 60 year old cookbook. It did smell a bit musty, like it had been in a box in the basement for many years. I purchased this for recipes that used basic ingredients and that's what I got. As usual, Alibris provided exactly what I wanted.

Wood Stove Cooking
The era when this series of cookbooks was published many homes were still using woodstoves to cook. The audience often was partially illiterate, and the books were educational. The design of these books has led to the preservation of many family recipes from the 30's and 40's because they included several blank pages in the back for the recording of the recipes. Summer kitchens were set up in many homes because families had to process the harvest and can all their food for winter- or starve.
The book cover is an embossed highly decorated vignette of a middle class home. The homes where there were no servants.
