Hardcovers. Two volume set. Part I-Historical Vol. I, and Part II-Documentary Vol. III. Apparently Volume 2 was never published. Brown, embossed cloth. Gilt dull. Pt I, VI: Good. Wear at spine extremities, with short tear in cloth at spine head and tail along front spine edge. Bit of bumping, wear at tips of corners, and some shelfwear along the bottom board edges. Page edges age-darkened, and some light foxing to the endpapers. Inked gift inscription on the front flyleaf, that has bled through a bit to the next blank page. The inscription is by F. [Francis] D. McCarty, an early resident of Fond du Lac County, and is dated 1858. Wear at spine extremities and corners. Chip along the rear spine edge of each volume. Couple of small spots and a bit of rubbing to the bindings. Gilt on embossed titles on spines has faded completely. Else fairly clean. Hinges of V3 are cracked. V1 has a church library label on the front pastedown. Pages foxed. There is a name/date on the title page of each volume: "Henry Wright, Madison Wis, 1855". (There was a Madison City Clerk by this name in Madison in 1858. ) Pt II, VIII: Fair. This volume is an ex-library copy. Brown binding tape has been applied over the spine, and the hinges are taped-repairs done in the distant past. The hinge is split between page 434 and 435. Edgewear. Library label on the front pastedown, library number and blindstamp on the title page, and a pocket on the rear pastedown. There is and inked inscription on the front pastedown; mostly covered by the library label but was from Madison in the 1850's. Page edges and endpapers age-darkened. Else the pages are fairly clean, if a bit age-toned.; ARH22A.
