This new edition of the Handbook seeks to consider and explore these current and emerging public health challenges. This edition fits in the Handbook's longstanding tradition of serving as a practical guide for graduate students on the key theories, methods, and strategies they will need to be effective in promoting health behavior changes in their communities and workplaces. As editors, we aimed for this edition to include behaviors and health topics of major interest, including those related to the leading causes of death and morbidity in the United States among adults and children, which have notably shifted over time. We sought to ensure that health and health equity were considered both in the discussion of health challenges and in the framing of effective strategies. This focus is essential to ensure the future workforce will be able to recognize the importance of equity considerations for health behavior change and apply an equity lens as they look at data, conduct research, or design programs to effect health behavior change in multiple settings"--
