Living by the sea might seem like a permanent holiday, but for a child, the life you have is all you know: it's just normal. So I enjoyed the fact that these recollections were written from the viewpoint of a child rather than an adult looking back at what childhood was like. The strangeness of adults and their world, the strength of childhood feeling about things that might later appear trivial, and the uneasiness that comes with the changes of growing up - all these are well captured. A very enjoyable read.
