Seller's Description:
New. Folio-over 12"-15" tall. Bethesda, MD, FIAE, 2010. First edition. Folio. Hardcover with pictorial cover, 176 pp. This exhibit catalog surveys the collection of Christian icons from the oldest monastery in Ukraine, the Kyiv-Pecherskaya Lavra (or Monastery of the Caves), exploring the history of Ukrainian icons and their stylistic evolution over the centuries. Ukrainian icons, unlike their Russian counterparts, incorporated noted influences from western art, particularly during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The book features full-page illustrations and individual annotations for each of the 77 objects in the exhibition, with two essays by Ukrainian scholars, "Ukrainian School of Iconography" and "The Kyiv-Pechersk National Historical and Cultural Preserve." No dust jacket as issued. New.
