ROBERT BRYNDZA's THE GIRL IN THE ICE is an action-packed fast-paced London police thriller featuring DCI Erika Foster. Lee, a museum grounds worker (a man, not a boy as indicated in the back cover blurb) discovers a striking blonde alas floating and dead under the ice of a nearby lake. Chief Superintendent Marsh puts Erika on the case, despite the recent baggage she has been burdened with in the past few months and so the story begins...
Erika seems to be dragging her feet thru quicksand tacking the politics of the London police, the dead girl's highly connected uncooperative family, the dregs of society that hate the police and so on. The case quickly becomes convoluted as one murder becomes two, then three.
A few of the reviews I read did not approve of Bryndza's choice to devote so much page time to Erika's tragic backstory, but I disagree because that is what helps to make Erika the tenacious investigator that she is as she feels she has to prove something to others and herself. Will she find Amanda Douglas-Brown's killer in time? Guess you'll have to read the book to find out.
Robert's cover choice is eye-appealing. The book was the perfect size to fit in my luggage. Spacing and choice of font made the book easy to read. This is the first book in the series; hoping to read more.
